has responsibility for social welfare services in Ireland. Site contains information on benefits available and info about PPS number (see below). You can apply for benefits as a resident of Ireland regardless of your nationality. Be sure to apply within the first 6 months of your arrival.
www.dublinwaste.ie - There are several different waste collecting companies. Some charge annually, others per kilo, and others per pick up or a combination of the aforementioned. Check this website or ask your neighbors about the exact charges in your area.
Healthcare – It would be advisable to register with a doctor upon arrival in the country before you or any family members need to visit, otherwise it may be difficult to get an appointment when necessary. Numbers can be found in the "Golden Pages" under Doctors(GP). For emergencies:
Adults - St. Michaels, DunLaoghaire, number 01 2806901, A&E over 16 years only, 8am to 8pm or St Vincents, Rock Road, number 01 2094358, A&E over 14 years only, open 24 hours.
Children - Tallagh Hospital, number 01 4142000, Children's hospital up to 15 years, after that the adult hospital there, both open 24 hours or Crumlin Hospital, number 01 4096346, A&E up to 15 years, open 24 hours.
In Ireland the PPSNumber (Personal Public Service) is a personal reference number that allows you to gain access to social welfare benefits and services. Without a PPS number you will not be able to get a job or any state benefits. It is used for taxation purposes and getting a drivers licence. You are required to have a PPS number for your children enrolled in school. You must be already living in Ireland in order to get your PPS Number. You will be asked to produce evidence of identity and residence in Ireland. If you are not Irish, you will need to produce the following documents when getting a PPS number:
- Your passport or national identity card Or Your Immigration Card,
- Evidence of your Irish address, such as a household bill (ESB, telephone, gas, etc..) in your name
- Evidence of either birth/work/unemployment/residency/tax liability/education in an EU/EEA country.
