Founded in 1967, the Lycée Français d’Irlande (“LFI”) offers a complete education for pupils from Petite Section in Kindergarten to Terminale (3 to 18 years) and operates under the auspices of the Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger (“AEFE” - Agency for the Teaching of French Abroad).

As part of the AEFE network, the school’s primary mission is to provide an education to French and Franco-Irish families living permanently or temporarily in Ireland and the curriculum is based on the French national curriculum and is taught through French.

However, over time the LFI has become more “European” and the schools bi-lingual educational project from kindergarten to secondary school attracts pupils of many nationalities.  Another sign of our “openness to Europe” is the school’s host family programme which was put in place over recent years.  The programme involves some 50 to 60 students from France, Spain and other European countries who come to Ireland to study for one or two years.  They live with Irish families and, while continuing with their regular studies at the school, also study for the Cambridge exams – showing the proficiency achieved in English.

Our educational project allows us to promote exchange with our Irish and German partners.  This meeting of cultures and languages helps promote a taste for diversity and dialogue among our students and prepares them to become global citizens – responsible, tolerant and independent individuals.

We are growing through the learning partnerships that LFI has built on both its sites, in kindergarten and primary with Hollypark National School, and in secondary with St Kilian’s Deutsche Schule in the Eurocampus.

The most recent element of the project was launched in 2005 with the bi-lingual programme for the classes from 1st to 3rd year (5eme to 3eme) where our students have joint classes with their counterparts in St Kilian’s and follow both the French and Irish curriculum.

The LFI is situated on two campuses along the N11 in south County Dublin.  The school’s administration and secondary classes are located in Clonskeagh, Dublin 14.  The kindergarten and primary school is located in Foxrock, Dublin 18.

With an educational team of more than 50 well-qualified, experienced and committed individuals, LFI offers its 480 students a quality education exemplified by the excellent exam results in 2008 in the Brevet des Colleges, Junior Certificate and the Baccalaureate.

Today LFI serves the educational needs of French and Irish children and children of many nationalities and offers a curriculum which allows access to higher education in France and Ireland but also in Europe for those who wish.

Our wish for this website is to provide an insight for our future students and their parents and that it enriches and facilitates communication between the many partners in the educational community.
